Tomcat6 in Debian? -

Can someone explain me the status of Tomcat 6 in Debian? My confusion arises from the fact that I can get a "normal" (?) Package in a "source" package and under the preservation (trial release) in the (stable release) release. Applicable link:

What is the difference between the source package and the 'normal' package? Does this mean that I have to compile a tanker from the source in Landy, but will it be squeezed directly to set it right? I am also a bit confused as to why Java has a sub-section in its package list in Squeeze but I do not think it can be a new plan for the new version only?

I hope this programming is related to SO good enough, it did not seem that it was applicable to ServerFault. Thanks in advance for coming up with my Debian Nubienes: P

A piece of software (like Tomcat, Apache 2, GTK +, Kernel) has been converted to a source package. A source package adds the original script code (as you will download it from the project's webpage) with the necessary modifications to create point script and binary ("normal") packages. The source package can create any number of binary packages, which can be "Arch: any" (each processor architecture will have a different version of the package) or "Arc: All" (all architecture packages will share). Link to all binary packages created on the source package pages (which is the source in your query in the URL) question.

By looking at dependencies quickly, it should be possible

make sure your /etc/apt/apt.conf , or in one In one, to install the Tomato 6 package on a leny system. /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ in the file:

  apt :: default release "static";

If /etc/apt/apt.conf is not present, then just create it.

Forward, squeeze stores to your sources.list , possibly using your local mirror:

  deb http: // ftp. Debian.org/debian/squeeze Main non-free contrib deb-src http: //ftp.debian.org/debian/ Squeak main non-free contrib

Now, update and run the package

  apt-get -t test tomcat6

This should only draw the necessary packages for tomcat6, but be careful because new versions of other packages Also may need, so on the production machine this Do not try them.
