I have .msi to install a program, on 'updates', I want to be able to check that someone Whether or not an update is available on the server, and if there is, install it.

  • Can MSIX do this? I have looked around, and I can find that / update just applies the .msp patch.
  • Is the MSP patch installed for the installer, or the patch for the installed application?
  • Are the latest versions of the latest / MSP patching in the latest version of the installer / installation?

MSIXAC does not do anything that you have described.

The MSP file is a patch for the installed application, not the installer service.

You can create a patch that applies to many products. You define this behavior in the summary information patch of the patch.
